Tx Plans

The Tx Plans tab allows you to manage patient treatment plans.

When building a Tx plan for a patient, you can enter diagnoses and procedures with text matching on descriptions and associated terms. You can also create multiple Tx options with treatment estimates.

The following steps guide you through the Tx plan process:

  1. Select a patient and open the EHR module.
  2. Click the Tx Plans tab and click the Create a new Record () icon.
  3. In the Treatment Plan window, complete the Tx Plan Description and Chief Concerns fields.

    4. Note: If you select a different patient while the Treatment Plan window is displayed, axiUm closes the Treatment Plan window.

  4. Click Objectives and enter objectives.
  5. Click Notes and enter treatment plan notes.

You can enter problems if a patient has existing problems on record.

  1. In the Problems tab list view, click the text New Item.

    2. Depending on your dental institution's settings, you may be prompted to select:

    • From the patient’s current problems to add to the treatment plan.
    • A problem from a Problem drop-down list.
  2. Complete any of the following:
    • Select from the problem list, and if appropriate, click a site or surface on the odontogram and click the green tick (Save and Close) icon.
    • In the Problem box:
      1. Enter a problem.

        2. Tip: Partial entries will retrieve any problem codes or problem descriptions containing this sequence.

        Example: If you begin searching for the problem Discolored Restoration, entering the letters "dis" or "rest" will display Discolored Restoration.

      2. Select the problem, and (If appropriate) click a site or surface on the odontogram, and click the green tick (Save and Close) icon.
    • Select the Problem ellipsis and:
      • From the Select Problem window, search and select a problem.
      • (If appropriate) Click a site and surface on the odontogram.
      • Click the green tick (Save and Close) icon.

      Alternatively, you can press the Enter key to save the entries.

      axiUm saves the problem and displays it in the list, closes the pop-up window, and then opens a new pop-up window to enter the next problem.

  3. Repeat the steps to add more problems.
  4. To enter a note for the problem:
    • In the Problems list view, select and right-click the problem, and then select Note.
    • In the Problem Note box, enter a note and click OK.

    In the Treatment Plan window, a note icon indicates that a diagnosis has a note attached.

  5. When you have finished adding problems, click the X button.

Note: If you enter another problem that duplicates an existing problem in the same treatment plan, axiUm indicates that you have an identical, unresolved problem that exists for the patient.

  1. Click the Diagnoses tab and click New Item.
  2. In the Diagnosis box, click the Diagnosis ellipsis and search for and select a diagnosis, or begin entering a diagnosis and select the diagnosis from the list (e.g., Restoration Fracture).

    3. Tip: Partial entries will retrieve any problem codes or problem descriptions containing this sequence.

    Example: If you begin searching for the problem Discolored Restoration, entering the letters "dis" or "rest" will display Discolored Restoration.

    Next, you'll link the diagnosis to the problem.

  3. Click the Problem drop-down arrow.

    4. axiUm displays a list of problems you entered earlier in the Problems tab.

  4. Select the checkbox(es) next to relevant list of problems (e.g., the Discolored Restoration checkbox).

    5. axiUm displays the selection in the Problem field.

  5. Click the green tick (Save and Close) icon.

    6. axiUm saves the diagnosis, closes the pop-up window, and opens a new pop-up window to enter the next diagnosis.

  6. To enter a note for the diagnosis:
    • In the Diagnoses list view, select and right-click the diagnosis, and then select Note.
    • In the Diagnosis Note box, enter a note, and then select OK

    In the Treatment Plan window, a note icon indicates that a diagnosis has a note attached.

  7. When you've finished entering the diagnoses, select the small x (Close Without Saving) icon.

Note: If you duplicate a diagnosis, axiUm displays a message indicating that there is an existing diagnosis in the same treatment plan.

  1. Click the Option 1 tab.
  2. In the Description field, replace the text "Option 1" with a description for your first treatment plan option (e.g., Amalgam restoration).

    3. axiUm changes the tab name from Option 1 to Amalgam restoration.

  3. In the list view, click the text New Item.

    4. axiUm displays a pop-up window.

  4. In the Provider field, enter the provider ID of the provider performing this treatment, or select the ellipsis, and search and select the provider ID.
  5. Click the Diagnosis drop-down list.

    6. axiUm displays a list of diagnoses you entered earlier in the Diagnoses tab.

  6. Select the checkbox next to the diagnoses item (e.g., Restoration Fracture).

    7. axiUm displays your selection in the Diagnosis field.

  7. In the Procedure field, either click the Procedure ellipsis, and search and select a procedure, or begin entering a procedure code, and then from the list, select a procedure (e.g., D2140).

    8. Partial entries will retrieve any procedure codes or procedure descriptions starting with this sequence.

    axiUm displays your selection in the Procedure field.

    If the procedure code involves tooth surfaces, axiUm displays Site and Surface boxes.

  8. (If appropriate) In the Site and Surface fields, enter information (e.g., Site: 6, Surface: M).

    9. Alternatively, go to the Odontogram and on tooth #6 click on surface M. The Site field and the Surface field populates automatically.

  9. Click the green tick (Save and Close) icon.

    10. axiUm saves the treatment option, closes the pop-up window, and opens a new pop-up window to enter the next diagnosis.

  10. When you have finished entering problems, click the small x (Close Without Saving) icon.

    11. Now, you can create a second treatment plan option.

    Tip: If you want to create a second treatment plan option (that is, Option 2) that will contains some of the procedures in Option 1, use the "Copy Option" button.

  11. To copy a treatment plan option:
    • Select the tab of the treatment plan option you want to copy.
    • Select the Copy Option button.

    12. axiUm makes a copy of the selected treatment plan option, and displays the text Copy of Amalgam restoration.

  12. To change the description, in the Tx Option Description field, enter a new description.
    • To delete treatments you do not want for this treatment plan option, select and then right-click a treatment, and choose Delete Treatment.
    • Click the Yes button.
  13. To add a new option, select the + (New Option) tab, and continue creating the option plan.

What's next?

Request approval for the treatment plan from a faculty member via the Approve Option button.

Note: You can delete only problems and diagnoses in unapproved treatment plans. Once a treatment plan is approved, you can no longer delete the associated problems and diagnoses.

You need a patient's agreement to the Tx plan, and then you can print the treatment plan.

  1. Click the Pt. Accept/Print button.

    2. axiUm displays the Treatment Plan contract.

  2. Follow the patient acceptance procedure as usual.

    3. Note: Depending on your dental institution, axiUm displays the Billing Options for Planned Treatment window before saving the record to the selected patient’s chart.

    The text for the selected tx option procedures changes from green to black to indicate the tx option is approved.

  3. Once you have completed all the steps to this point, click the X button to close the Treatment Plan window.

axiUm returns to the EHR window’s Tx Plans tab, and displays the new treatment plan record in the list view.

When a patient's Tx plan is out-of-date (for example, the patient never had the treatment(s) specified in the Tx plan, and has returned to the clinic after a long absence), you can copy the out-dated Tx plan and use it as the basis for the new treatment plan.

To copy a treatment plan:

  1. Select a patient and open the EHR module.
  2. Click the Tx Plans tab.
  3. In the list view, select the treatment plan you want to copy and click the Copy Record () icon.

    4. In the list view, the copy of the treatment plan is displayed with Copy of.

  4. Select the copy and click the Edit Record () icon to display the Treatment Plan window.
  5. In the Tx Plan Description field, enter a new description.
  6. Modify the fields as necessary.

Once approved, Tx plans cannot be modified. However, you can copy a Tx plan, make the original Tx plan inactive, and modify the copy of the Tx plan.

Important: Once you have modified the copied Tx plan, you must obtain faculty and patient approval again.

If patients have not returned to the dental institution for some time, or decide not to proceed with the Tx plan, you can make their unapproved Tx plans inactive.

Tip: You can re-activate their Tx plan later, if needed.

  1. Select a patient and open the EHR module.
  2. Click the Tx Plans tab and select a listed Tx plan record.
  3. Click the Make Inactive () icon to display the Make Treatment Plan Inactive window.
  4. In the Inactive Reason field, enter the reason for making a plan inactive.
  5. To update any planned treatment associated with the treatment plan, select the Make treatments inactive via changing their Status to checkbox and from the associated drop-down list, choose the status to set the planned treatments to. This will prevent any provider from scheduling or completing the planned treatments from this treatment plan.
  6. Click OK.

In the Tx Plan tab, axiUm displays inactive treatment plans using strikeouts. In the Tx History tab, corresponding Planned treatment is displayed with an asterisk (P*).

  1. Select a patient and open the EHR module.
  2. Click the Tx Plans tab and select the inactivated (record with strikeout) Tx plan record.
  3. Click the Re-activate () icon.
  4. When prompted to re-activate the Tx plan record, click Yes to display the Treatment Plan Re-activate Question window.
  5. To change the status of the planned treatments, from the Do you want to update their status to drop-down list, select the correct status (e.g., Re-activated), and click Yes.

In the Tx Plan tab, axiUm removes the strikeout from the treatment plan record and in the Tx History tab, removes the asterisk from the Planned treatment (P*).
